So it’s that day again when all of us singles are reminded over and over that we are still single, National Singleness Awareness day. But instead of focusing on the “you should be lonely because you are single” garbage, I am going to take the opportunity to use my singleness.
Honestly singleness is something I have given a great deal of thought to in the past 8 months. I am grateful that the Lord has given me the opportunity to be here in Lakeshore, something I probably couldn’t do for this length of time if I wasn’t single. While I don’t feel I have been called to be single forever, I know the Lord doesn’t want me to sit around and pout about being single so I am enjoying making the most of this opportunity.
I am grateful for the friendships that I have established here in Lakeshore, to be under the faithful preaching of God’s Word, for the opportunity to do things I probably would have never done otherwise (like learning to drive a forklift), and for the things/events/circumstances/living conditions/etc that God has used to stretch me and mold me for His glory.
For those who are thinking all singles hate Valentines Day...For me, while it could be easy to sit around and pout, it is helpful for me (as a single) to see a husband in wife who are completely in love with each, loving each other. Seeing a husband love his wife as Christ loved the Church and seeing the woman loving her husband is something, sadly, that is somewhat of a foreign idea, but I am grateful for the Christians couples who exhibit this. So I encourage the married folks to love their spouse unashamedly and be a godly example for those of us who desire to be married one day.
